Becoming a Thompson's® WaterSeal® Certified Contractor is a simple process. It takes just three easy steps.

Step 1: Download and study the Thompson's® WaterSeal® Certified Contractor Training Manual. This important tool will increase your understanding of many topics valuable to your business, including:

  • The exterior wood care market
  • General information about wood
  • How to clean & treat wood
  • Thompson's® WaterSeal® products
  • Supplies & equipment
  • Marketing & developing your business
  • How to estimate a job
  • Sources of useful information

Step 2: Register your business contact information and accept the Thompson's WaterSeal Certified Contractor Code of Ethics. You can also add advertising information for your Contractor Locator listing, which consumers use to search for your services. Your business contact information will be used to:

  • Collect and track your Thompson's® WaterSeal® Advantage Points
  • Give you the ability to purchase premiums and business support materials
  • Provide consumers with your information via our online Contractor Locator
  • Keep you updated of Thompson's® WaterSeal® brand news and promotions
  • Send you our newsletter to keep you informed of the latest trends in wood care

Step 3: Once you feel you've mastered the contents of the Training Manual, take the Certified Contractor Examination. A score of 90% is passing. If you successfully perform on the Examination, you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your new status as a Thompson's® WaterSeal® Certified Contractor. A welcome packet, containing your certificate and membership card as well as assorted marketing materials, will be sent to your business. If you do not pass on the first try, you can take the test as many times as you need.
